Shopify SEO in Arabic: How to Rank on Google in the UAE and the Gulf
A practical SEO guide for Arabic Shopify stores, covering Gulf keywords, language URLs, collection and product pages, speed, structured data and content.
Short answer: SEO for an Arabic Shopify store rests on five things: keywords in your Gulf customers' own words, a separate Arabic URL with hreflang, collection and product pages written in Arabic rather than translated, a fast mobile store, and content that answers customers' questions. Competition for Arabic keywords in the Gulf is much lower than for English, and that's your opportunity.
Why Arabic SEO is a big opportunity right now
Search Google for "تصميم متجر شوبيفاي في الإمارات" (Shopify store design in the UAE) and look at the results: mostly freelancer service listings, with few and weak Arabic articles. The same is true in many categories. Shoppers search in Arabic while stores write only in English. A store that publishes strong Arabic content can rank much faster than it could competing in English.
1. Research keywords in your customers' language
Gulf shoppers don't search using formal translations. For example:
- "عطور عود" and "دهن عود" (oud perfume, oud oil), not just "oriental perfume".
- "عبايات" (abayas), not "traditional womenswear".
- "توصيل نفس اليوم دبي" (same-day delivery Dubai).
How to find them:
- Type the start of a phrase into Google and read the autocomplete suggestions.
- Check the "People also ask" box in the results.
- Ask your customer service team which questions keep coming up on WhatsApp.
- Once you have traffic, open Google Search Console to see the queries you appear for.
2. URL structure and languages
- A separate URL for Arabic and one for English, linked with hreflang tags. Shopify adds these automatically when languages are set up correctly.
- Translate URL handles where it makes sense, or keep them short and clear.
- Don't mix Arabic and English on the same page.

3. Collection pages: your strongest SEO pages
Collection pages are usually what ranks for terms like "women's perfume Dubai". Improve them with:
- An SEO title with the main keyword and the city or country, under about 60 characters.
- A meta description that earns the click, under about 155 characters.
- A text block under the products (150–300 words) explaining the collection and answering common questions.
- Internal links to related collections.
4. Product pages
- A clear product name containing the term shoppers search for.
- An original Arabic description, not copied from the supplier. Duplicate content doesn't rank.
- Arabic alt text describing each image.
- Customer reviews, which add fresh content and can show stars in search results.
5. Speed and mobile experience
Google evaluates your store using the mobile version. Things that slow Shopify stores down:
- Lots of apps, each adding scripts.
- Large, uncompressed images.
- Too many or heavy fonts.
- An unoptimised video at the top of the page.
Cut apps and build core features into the theme.
6. Structured data (schema)
Structured data helps Google understand your pages and can earn richer results such as price, availability and stars:
- Product on product pages (price, availability, rating).
- Organization for your store details.
- BreadcrumbList for navigation paths.
- FAQPage for FAQ content.
Most modern Shopify themes add Product data, but check it with Google's Rich Results Test.
7. Content: a blog that brings in customers
A blog isn't decoration. Each article should target a question your customers search before buying:
- "How do I tell real oud oil from fake?"
- "Best summer perfumes for the UAE"
- "Abaya sizes: how to choose the right one"
Link each article to the right collection or product. That's exactly what stores leading their categories do.
8. Don't forget AI search
Shoppers now ask ChatGPT and Gemini before they search Google. The same SEO basics help there, plus a few extra steps covered in our guide to GEO: getting your store into AI answers.
